stand up to the bully
Tonight, September 10, Vice-President Harris will stand up to one of America's most notorious and dangerous bullies - Donald J. Trump, or "Agent Orange" as I call him.
This isn't a new position Harris finds herself in. No, it all began when she was little. At the Democratic National Convention, her childhood friend Stacey Johnson-Batiste recounted how her friend Kamala was her protector. One day at school, the class made clay art projects. While they were on a table drying during story time, one little boy singled out Stacey's art project and smashed it to the ground. Kamala jumped in between the boy and her friend, but he picked up a rock and hit Kamala on the head with it. Kamala was rushed to the hospital, where she received stitches to the wound over her eye. The wound healed but left a visible scar all these years later.
Why does this childhood story matter? From her earliest beginning, Vice-President Harris stood up to bullies and grew up to become the adult who protects by prosecuting "the bad guys," the bullies and the villains.
Any bullied child would love to have a classmate like Kamala in their corner. Stacey probably thought her friend was a superhero. But just like our childhood friends, bullies grow up too.
Tonight, our superhero, our ally, Vice-President Harris, will face a grown-up bully on the debate stage. This man's terrorizing actions throughout his life and past presidency have mainly been, if not forgiven by his supporters, ignored. He flamed hate against Jews by calling Anti-Semites at the University of Charlottesville "very fine people." He has caused bodily harm to women. I am confident E. Jean Carroll would have appreciated a person, man or woman to save her from Trump when he sexually assaulted her. The news media could have stopped amplifying "The Donald" when he railed against the Central Park Five for a heinous crime they did not commit. They stood up at the convention to voice their warning about a bully who used his influence to help convict innocent Black men. What would have happened if we hadn't protested and the courts hadn't stepped in to confront his hate when he tried to institute a Muslim ban to keep Muslims out of the country? The list of egregious actions and behaviors goes on and on but cannot go on into our future. This bully must be stopped.
